United Way cuts funds to agencies (The Tennessean)

With area plants dealing with closure, buyouts, layoffs or furloughs since last fall, the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon County took a conservative approach in allocations to member agencies - reducing funds overall by $170,901 or 10.71 percent compared with June 2008 allotments.

Oncor to request stimulus funds for smart meters (Dallas Morning News)

North Texas power line operator Oncor plans to apply for $317 million in stimulus money to help pay for new smart meters. The funds, available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, could lower the fees consumers ultimately pay for the new meters.
